Preselection Basket RD defeats Arkansas State University in a warm-up match

The national senior basketball preselection defeated the Arkansas State University team this Sunday, 96-78, in the friendly blank match they played at the Gran Arena del Cibao Doctor Oscar Gobaira.

This Sunday’s is the first of a series of clashes of blanks that the national preselection will hold with several universities of the American educational system, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), in its acronym in English.

The preselection will also be measured against the universities of Saint John’s, Fordham and Kentucky, who in turn will face other Dominican teams such as the U22 national team, a team from the Santiago Basketball Association (Abasaca) and an All-Star squad from the club Gregorio Urbano Gilbert (GUG), from that same territorial jurisdiction.

The blanks are part of the preparation of the national team to face the fourth qualifying window for the 2023 World Championship, which will be against Panama and Venezuela, on the 25th and 29th of this month, respectively.

In this initial meeting, the Dominicans made use of the offensive deployed by Jhery Matos with 15 points, along with Richard Bautista and Anyeuri Castillo with 12 points each.

Followed by Brayan Martínez, who had 11 baskets, Yeison Colomé had nine touchdowns, grabbed six rebounds and handed out five assists, and José Familia added eight.

Omar El-Sheikh stood out for the North Americans with double figures of 20 points and 12 rebounds, Malcolm Farrington 12 and Markise Davis had nine units.

The actions between Dominican and NCAA teams will continue this Monday, when the representative team of Abasaca and Arkansas State University face each other.

The match is scheduled at 6:00 in the afternoon, at the Gran Arena del Cibao Doctor Oscar Gobaira, in Santiago.

On Wednesday the 10th they will play on the same stage, at 6:00 p.m., Arkansas State against the U22 national team, which will also play on Friday, August 12, against the University of Saint John’s, at 4:00 p.m. at the Sports Palace Virgilio Travieso Soto.
