Prem Sagar, Producer-Cinematographer and Son of Ramanand Sagar, Dies at 84

The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Prem Sagar, a respected filmmaker and cinematographer. He passed away this morning at 84 years old. Prem Sagar was the son of legendary director Ramanand Sagar and father to producer Shiv Sagar.

He played a huge part in shaping many projects at Sagar Arts. This was the production house his famous father established. Prem Sagar carried on the family’s strong legacy in Indian cinema and television. He ensured their name remained a hallmark of quality storytelling.

A bright student, Prem Sagar attended the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. He graduated in 1968, ready to make his mark. He became known for his keen eye as a cinematographer. He worked on many films, including ‘Lalkaar,’ ‘Aankhen,’ and ‘Charas.’

Beyond his work behind the camera, Prem Sagar also led major television shows. He was at the forefront of popular series like ‘Vikram Aur Betaal,’ ‘Ramayan,’ and ‘Shri Krishna.’ He even directed and produced the film ‘Hum Tere Aashiq Hain,’ which starred Jeetendra and Hema Malini.

Reports say Prem Sagar had been unwell for some time. He was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. On Sunday, doctors advised his family to take him home, and he passed away shortly after. The news of his death has deeply saddened many in the film industry. His contributions will certainly live on through the many projects he helped bring to life.
