Portuguese surfers Frederico Morais and João Mendonça have made it to the quarterfinals of the Caparica Surf Fest, the final stop on the World Surf League’s (WSL) qualifying tour. Martim Nunes was eliminated at the Praia do Paraíso in Costa de Caparica.
Frederico topped his heat with 10.03 points from two waves, scoring 6.33 and 3.70. Ruben Vitoria from Spain came second with 9.77 points, while Renan Grainville and Samuel Redon from France were eliminated with 9.10 and 7.04 points, respectively.
João Mendonça was second in his heat with 12.54 points, just behind Yago Dominguez from Spain, who scored 12.67. Both surfers moved on to the next round, while Noa Dupouy and Adur Amatriain from France and Spain were eliminated.
Martim Nunes didn’t advance, finishing last in his heat with 7.63 points. Jorgann Couzinet from France led the heat with 13.33 points, followed by Ido Hagag from Israel and Keoni Lasa from Spain.

The quarterfinals start on Saturday. Frederico Morais faces Charly Quivront from France, while João Mendonça takes on Jorgann Couzinet. Other matchups include Ruben Vitoria versus Thomas Debierre, and Ido Hagag against Yago Dominguez.
The women’s competition will also conclude today, with the semifinals being decided. Both the men’s and women’s events offer crucial points for the WSL’s European qualifying tour, with the top performers advancing to the Challenger Series in 2026. The men’s winner will receive 3,000 points, while the women’s winner will get 1,000 points.
