Portuguese Star Freitas Falls Short in Both WTT Feeder Parma Finals

Portuguese table tennis player Marcos Freitas endured a challenging Wednesday, losing both the men’s singles and men’s doubles finals at the WTT Feeder Parma tournament in Italy.

The demanding schedule saw Freitas compete in the singles final less than an hour after concluding his doubles match.

In the men’s singles final, Freitas, ranked 101st globally, fell to France’s Joe Seyfried, who is ranked 87th. Seyfried secured the title in four games with scores of 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, and 13-11.

Freitas, a native of Madeira, had held a 10-8 advantage in the decisive fourth game before Seyfried rallied to win.

Earlier in the day, Freitas and his partner Tiago Apolónia lost the men’s doubles final to Japan’s Shunsuke Okano and Jo Yokotani. The Portuguese duo was defeated 3-0, with set scores of 12-10, 11-9, and 11-3.

Before his final appearances, Freitas had advanced to the singles championship by defeating South Korea’s Cho Seungmin 3-0 in the semifinals. He won that match with scores of 11-8, 12-10, and 11-9.
