Portuguese Referee João Pinheiro to Officiate Manchester City-Bayer Leverkusen Champions League

UEFA has appointed a Portuguese referee team, led by João Pinheiro, to officiate a high-profile Champions League match between Manchester City and Bayer Leverkusen.

The 37-year-old official will take charge of the Tuesday fixture at England’s Etihad Stadium, scheduled for 8 PM local time.

This assignment marks Pinheiro’s second Champions League appearance this season. It signals a continued rise in his international officiating career.

Pinheiro will be supported by assistant referees Bruno Jesus and Luciano Maia. João Gonçalves will serve as the fourth official.

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties will be handled by Tiago Martins, with French official Willy Delajod providing additional VAR support.

Earlier this November, Pinheiro oversaw the Champions League game between Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt. Before his current European assignments, he also officiated at the U-20 World Cup in Chile.
