Portuguese Laranjeira, Costa Secure Tokyo Deaflympics Finals

Two Portuguese athletes secured spots in event finals Friday at the Deaflympics in Tokyo, with several others failing to advance.

Francisco Laranjeira qualified in the 5,000 meters, completing his race in 15 minutes, 51.20 seconds. He placed third in his heat and ninth overall in the preliminary rounds.

Hemilton Costa advanced in the long jump, achieving a mark of 6.64 meters. This performance ranked him seventh best among all competitors in the preliminaries.

Other Portuguese athletes competed but did not reach their respective finals.

Nuno Esteves finished ninth in the 50-meter rifle three positions qualification event, scoring 568 points. He was seven points shy of the sixth-place qualifier, Kushagra Rajawat of India.

In swimming, Miguel Cruz completed the 200-meter backstroke in 2 minutes, 27.42 seconds. Tiago Neves swam the 200-meter breaststroke in 2 minutes, 37.14 seconds. Both swimmers failed to qualify for their finals.
