Portuguese Coaches Clash: Martins’ Al Gharafa Beats Jorge’s Al-Rayyan 3-2

Pedro Martins beats Artur Jorge in Qatar

Football fans in Qatar just saw a real chess match on the pitch. Two top coaches from Portugal, Pedro Martins and Artur Jorge, went head-to-head. Martins’ team, Al Gharafa, visited Jorge’s Al-Rayyan. When the dust settled, Al Gharafa took home a narrow 3-2 victory.

This was a big game, part of the Qatari league’s sixth round. The visitors got off to a quick start. Dame Traoré found the net after just 17 minutes. Then, Al Ganehi added another just before halftime, making it 2-0. But Al-Rayyan, playing at home, wasn’t ready to give up. Roger Guedes pulled one back at 42 minutes, keeping things interesting. The home side also featured a couple of Portuguese talents, André Amaro, who started the game, and Tiago Silva, who came on later at the 61-minute mark.

The game then swung back and forth. Guedes scored again for Al-Rayyan from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute. This leveled the score, setting up a nail-biting finish. But Al Gharafa had one more trick up their sleeve. In the very first minute of added time, former Porto star Brahimi stepped up and calmly slotted home a penalty. That goal sealed the 3-2 win for Al Gharafa. The drama wasn’t over though. Al-Rayyan thought they had equalized in the 12th minute of extra time, but the goal was disallowed, crushing their hopes.

This win gave Al Gharafa a big boost in the standings. They now sit in third place with 13 points. That puts them right alongside the league leaders, Shamal and Qatar SC. Al-Rayyan, despite a valiant effort, slipped to fourth place, holding 10 points.
