Portuguese goalkeeping coach Vítor Pereira has joined Egyptian club Zamalek’s technical staff, immediately entering the high-stakes environment of the Egyptian Super Cup final in the United Arab Emirates.
Pereira, 53, arrived in Abu Dhabi this week, where Zamalek is competing in the tournament. The club is set to face fierce rival Al Ahly in the final on Sunday.
Zamalek secured its spot by defeating Pyramids 5-4 in a penalty shootout on Thursday, following a goalless draw in regular time.
Pereira assumes the role of assistant coach under Egyptian head coach Ahmed Abdelraouf. His new technical team includes another Portuguese coach, Nuno Ribeiro, and Amer Sabry.
Sabry is the brother of a former Benfica player with the same name.
Pereira previously worked with renowned Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus at Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. He has an extensive international career, having coached in Egypt previously with Pharco. His experience also spans Saudi Arabia, France, Israel, China, and Qatar.
