Portuguese Canoeists Shine on First Day of European Canoe Championships Qualifiers.

Portuguese canoeists made a strong showing on the first day of the European Canoe Sprint Championships. Fernando Pimenta and Messias Baptista topped their respective heats, with Pimenta clocking 3:29.917 minutes in the K1 1000m and Baptista finishing in 34.441 seconds in the K1 200m. Beatriz Fernandes came in second in the C1 200m with a time of 47.47 seconds, behind Poland’s Dorota Borowska, who led with 46.85 seconds.

The Portuguese K4 500m team, comprising Gustavo Gonçalves, João Ribeiro, Messias Baptista, and Pedro Casinha, secured a spot in the semi-finals with a fourth-place finish. The women’s K4 500m team, featuring Teresa Portela, Ana Rodrigues, Ana Brito, and Inês Costa, also made it to the semi-finals with a fifth-place finish.

The action continues on Friday with the K4 500m semi-finals. Pimenta competes on Saturday at 10:37 a.m., while Baptista takes to the water on Sunday at 10:46 a.m. Fernandes is scheduled to race on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
