Portuguese Bodyboarder Wins Junior European Championship Title at Cascais Boogie Chicks Event

Filipa Freitas rode her luck on the waves at Carcavelos Beach, claiming the junior European bodyboarding title over the weekend. She took the top spot with a score of 14.30, edging out fellow Portuguese competitors Luana Dourado (13.20), Maria Padrela (10.90), and Francisca Ribeiro (9.70). The event was part of the Cascais Boogie Chicks 2025, a highly anticipated competition that’s been a staple in the bodyboarding world.

A Standout Performance

Freitas’s victory was a testament to her skill and the favorable conditions at Carcavelos. “This is one of the best achievements in my competitive career,” she said, beaming with pride. “The wave formation was great, and I’m thrilled to have won on home soil.” The win was made even sweeter by the event’s 20th anniversary celebration, adding a special touch to her achievement.

The Cascais Boogie Chicks also doubled as the first stop on the absolute European Championship tour. Spanish competitor Teresa Miranda took the top spot with 13.05 points, followed closely by Joana Schenker (12.75), Luana Dourado (12.45), and Teresa Padrela (6.50).

A Successful Event

Catarina Sousa, the event organizer, was thrilled with how everything came together. “We were blessed with good weather and waves,” she said. “The past few times we’ve had big storms or no waves at all, but during our three-day event, the conditions were perfect.” Sousa highlighted the high level of competition, noting that the Portuguese contingent made a strong showing, with three athletes making it to the junior final alongside a Spanish competitor. “Having the junior title stay in-house at Carcavelos Beach is fantastic,” she added, “it’s another title for our club and community.”
