Portuguese Beach Volleyball Duo Pedrosa and Campos Face Elimination After Initial Loss

João Pedrosa and Hugo Campos, Portugal’s top beach volleyball duo, got off to a rocky start at the Xiamen Challenge in China.

Early Setback for Pedrosa and Campos

They lost 2-0 to the US team of Tri Bourne and Evan Cory in their first Group E match.

The match was neck and neck, with Pedrosa and Campos ultimately losing 26-24 and 22-20.
Their next match is against the German team of Maximilian Just and Philipp Huster.
Just and Huster were beaten 2-0 by the US duo Hagen Smith and Logan Webber in their opening match, losing 21-19 and 21-10.

Pedrosa and Campos’ Road Ahead

To stay in the tournament, Pedrosa and Campos must win their next match.
This is their fourth event on the 2025 World Tour.
Their best result so far has been third place at the Yucatán Challenge in Mexico.

Other Portuguese Teams

Gonçalo and Tomás Sousa, another Portuguese team, also competed at Xiamen.
They had a bye in the first round of qualifying but lost to the Latvian team Gustavs Auzins and Toms Liepa in the second round, 0-2 (18-21 and 24-26).
Despite being eliminated, they earned 180 points for the international ranking and finished 33rd.
