Portugal Volleyball Team Sweeps Philippines 3-0 in Final World Championship Warm-up

Volleyball team beat the Philippines

Portugal’s national volleyball team looks sharp and ready for the World Cup. They just finished their warm-up games on a high note. The team secured a solid win against the Philippines on Tuesday in Manila. This final test confirmed their good form.

Coach João José’s squad defeated the host nation cleanly, winning the match 3-0. The set scores were 25-19, 25-23, and 25-21. The entire game wrapped up quickly, taking only one hour and fourteen minutes. This quick victory showed the team’s efficiency and focus.

This win followed another strong performance earlier in the week. On Monday, Portugal also swept Romania, another team heading to the World Cup. They won that match 3-0, with set scores of 25-22, 25-23, and 25-15. These back-to-back victories have boosted team morale.

Miguel Tavares, the young setter, shared his excitement. He told the federation’s media that the team played well. “Our motivation is through the roof for the World Cup,” he said. He added that being in the Philippines for a while helped them adjust. “Our bodies are used to it now. We are in much better physical shape,” Tavares explained. He felt their improved condition was clear on the court. “I am ready to give 110% for our colors,” he stated with confidence.

This will be Portugal’s third time playing in the World Cup. They aim to do better than their eighth-place finish in 2002. It’s an ambitious goal, but their recent form suggests it’s within reach.

The team’s World Cup journey starts on Saturday against Cuba. They will then face the strong United States team on Monday. Their final group stage match is two days later against Colombia. Only the top two teams from each of the eight groups will move on to the round of 16. Portugal knows they need to perform well from the start.
