The Portuguese national volleyball squad is getting ready for the biggest stage. They just fired off a strong statement. On Tuesday, they swept the Philippines in a warm-up game.

This match, held in Santo Tirso, was the first of three against the same opponent. Portugal wants to fine-tune their game. They are heading to the World Championship, which runs from September 12 to 28. That big tournament will be held right in the Philippines.

Portugal wasted little time. They won with set scores of 25-17, 28-26, and 25-17. Coach João José used a clear starting lineup. Miguel Tavares, Lourenço Martins, Kelton Tavares, Alexandre Ferreira, Nuno Marques, and Filip Cveticanin started the game. Ivo Casa was the libero, handling back-court duties.

The coach also rotated his squad. Tiago Violas, André Pereira, José Andrade, José Pinto, Rafael Santos, and Guilherme Menezes all saw action. Gonçalo Sousa also stepped in as a libero during the match. This depth will be key for the tournament.
