Portugal Police Unveil November Speed Camera Locations to Boost Road Safety

Portugal’s Public Security Police will publicly disclose all locations for speed enforcement cameras across the country in November 2025, adopting a transparent strategy aimed at preventing accidents rather than simply penalizing drivers.

The initiative, part of a campaign titled “Quem o avisa…” (meaning “Whoever warns you…”), explicitly aims to promote road safety, discourage speeding, and reduce traffic incidents. Police officials emphasized that the advance notice is meant to encourage more responsible driving behaviors, not solely to issue fines.

This approach marks a departure from typical speed enforcement methods often employed in other nations, where camera locations are frequently kept confidential to catch offenders. Portugal’s strategy focuses on public awareness as a primary tool for behavioral change.

Throughout November, the cameras will be deployed in all district capitals and various other localities. This coverage includes urban areas, national roads, and high-traffic expressways.

The comprehensive list specifies dates and local times for operations across mainland Portugal and the autonomous region of Madeira. For example, the Braga district lists controls in Guimarães and Vila Nova de Famalicão, while the capital, Lisbon, will see enforcement on the A2 bridge connecting Almada and Lisbon, and on Avenida da Índia. Operations are also scheduled for cities like Faro, Porto, and Beja.

The nationwide disclosure highlights a commitment to public engagement as a core component of Portugal’s road safety policy.
