Portugal’s national football team received a strong motivational message from its federation president, Pedro Proença, as it stands on the verge of securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup with just one point needed from upcoming qualifiers.
Proença rallied the squad via an Instagram post following his attendance at their initial training session. He emphasized the team’s unity and ambition as they prepare for crucial matches this week.
“First day of training camp. The family is back! This is the week to seal our place in the 2026 World Cup,” Proença wrote. “Without arrogance, but with responsibility and ambition, wherever we play, it will always be to win!”
The post also included a video showing Proença greeting members of the Portuguese delegation.

Portugal is scheduled to face Ireland on Thursday and Armenia on Sunday in their qualification campaign. The team requires only a single additional point to guarantee their participation in the global tournament.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
