A new journey for the national team kicked off this Tuesday. They are now fully focused on two crucial upcoming matches. First up is Armenia on Saturday, the 6th, followed by Hungary next Tuesday. The training sessions began with a full roster.
Of the twenty-three players under coach Roberto Martínez, only Francisco Conceição trained on his own. He was simply managing his workload, a smart move this early in the campaign. The rest of the squad joined Martínez on the pitch at Cidade do Futebol.
A great energy filled the training grounds. Cristiano Ronaldo, true to form, led the charge in the warm-up run. It’s a familiar sight for anyone who follows the team. Meanwhile, the three goalkeepers – Diogo Costa, Rui Silva, and José Sá – worked at a separate goal nearby. This double-header marks the start of the 2026 World Cup qualification push. That global tournament will be hosted across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
A Moment of Reflection
Football is more than just games and scores. Later today, at 6:00 PM, the national team will pause their preparations. They will join a special tribute organized by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). This ceremony will honor Diogo Jota and Jorge Costa, who both passed away recently.
The event will take place at Cidade do Futebol, bringing together the team and other important figures. Pedro Proença, the FPF President, will be present. Also attending is Luís Montenegro, the Prime Minister. It’s a reminder of the bonds that tie the football community together.
