Portugal Kicks Off World Cup 2027 Qualifiers with 83-62 Victory Over Montenegro

Portugal launched its 2027 FIBA World Cup qualification campaign with a decisive 83-62 road victory over Montenegro, fueled by strong performances from key players.

The 21-point margin underscored Portugal’s dominant control throughout the opening match held in Podgorica.

Guard Travante Williams led the scoring effort for Portugal, contributing 16 points. He also added three rebounds and one assist.

Center Cândido Sá was a formidable presence on the glass, securing 10 rebounds along with his eight points.

Other key contributors included Ricardo Monteiro, who tallied 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Diogo Brito added nine points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Portugal established an early lead and maintained it through all four quarters, posting scores of 21-14, 25-11, 25-11, and 19-19.

The team now turns its attention to a challenging upcoming match against a strong Greek squad. This next qualification game is scheduled for Sunday in Matosinhos.

Greece also began its World Cup qualification journey successfully, defeating Romania by a score of 91-64 in its opening fixture.
