Portugal Health Minister Dismisses INEM President, Names Azores Official

Portugal’s Health Minister Ana Paula Martins has dismissed the president of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), Sérgio Dias Janeiro, and moved to appoint a new leader for the crucial public service.

The minister’s decision came on Friday, marking a swift change in leadership for the national emergency medical institute.

CNN Portugal reported the dismissal and the planned succession.

Luís Cabral is set to take over the role. He currently leads emergency medical services in Portugal’s autonomous Azores region.

Cabral previously served as Regional Secretary for Health in the Azores from 2012 to 2016.

The search for a new INEM president began in January.

However, the appointment process was halted due to the scheduling of early elections for May. This interruption delayed the leadership transition at the institute.
