Porto B Coach: Player Development Remains Core Goal, Regardless of Wins

FC Porto B coach João Brandão emphasized that developing players for the main squad remains a key objective, even after the team secured its first season win while still holding last place in the league.

Brandão stated his team does not alter its path or objectives based on game outcomes. While every match is approached with the intent to win, he highlighted the unique role of a B team.

“There are other objectives within the context of a B team, such as promoting players to the A team,” Brandão told reporters. “That is always present and will always be present, without hiding from the great objective, which is to win.”

He reiterated that FC Porto exists to win. The sense of victory is cultivated through consistent success, and to achieve this, the team must be superior at all stages of a game.

The team’s recent victory did not lift them from the bottom of the standings. They now face UD Oliveirense away on Wednesday evening.

Brandão described UD Oliveirense as an experienced side with quality in their build-up play. He noted they have shown diversity in recent matches.

“It will be a very disputed game,” Brandão predicted. He expects set pieces to be crucial given the traditional nature and dimensions of Oliveirense’s home field.

FC Porto B must be “very collective, intense, and aggressive,” mirroring their performance in the last match. He stressed the team’s need for determination and “Dragon grit.”
