The final hours of the summer transfer window always bring a flurry of activity. This year, Portimonense was right in the thick of it. The club made a series of late moves, bringing in four new players as the deadline approached. These additions are set to strengthen various parts of the squad, from the goal to the forward line.
Among the new faces is Wellington Santana, a 28-year-old goalkeeper. He joins from Camboriú, a team in the second division of Santa Catarina state. Interestingly, Jardeu, a 26-year-old forward, also made the move from Camboriú. Jardeu has a notable youth background, having spent time in Flamengo’s well-known academy. Another forward joining the ranks is João Vítor, aged 27. He last played for Itabaiana and grew up in the youth system of Internacional de Porto Alegre. João Vítor also brings some international experience, having played in the United Arab Emirates.
Perhaps one of the most intriguing additions is Luigi Gaspar, a 21-year-old midfielder. He holds dual Brazilian and English nationality, which is quite unique. Before arriving at Portimonense, Gaspar was part of Watford’s Under-21 squad. He also spent time in the youth ranks of English giant Arsenal. Gaspar might start his journey with the club’s Under-23 team. This is also the path for Liu Jincheng, a Chinese defender who was registered on Monday and will join the Under-23 squad.
These weren’t the only moves made on a very busy Monday. Earlier in the day, Portimonense had already secured two other players. Mo Dauda, a forward, arrived after a loan spell at Ibiza last season, coming from Tenerife. The club also welcomed back Welinton, an attacker who previously played for Gangwon in South Korea. Welinton’s return to the club had already been announced, but he is currently recovering from an injury.
