Portimonense Players Boycott Training Over Two Months of Unpaid Wages

Players at Portuguese club Portimonense refused to train on Tuesday over two months of unpaid wages, a move highlighting persistent financial issues in the nation’s football league.

The entire squad expressed dissatisfaction with the situation, with a source from the Players’ Union confirming to Record that two months of salaries were overdue.

The club, which competes in Portugal’s second-tier league, had pledged to settle the outstanding amounts between Monday and Tuesday. This commitment was not met.

The failure to pay led players to boycott their scheduled morning training session.

The session was subsequently postponed to the afternoon, accompanied by a fresh assurance from the club that the matter would be resolved.

This incident is not isolated within Portuguese football, which has seen clubs struggle with financial instability. The case of Boavista, which faced severe financial difficulties and dropped multiple divisions, serves as a prominent example of such challenges.
