Portimonense beats Saudi Al Diriyah 5-1 in pre-season friendly.

Football in the Algarve often brings together teams from all corners of the globe. This past Wednesday, fans saw a unique matchup when Portimonense hosted Al Diriyah, a Saudi Arabian club, for a friendly game. It was a chance for both sides to sharpen their skills.

Al Diriyah is no ordinary visiting team. They clinched the Third Division title in Saudi Arabia last season. Now, they are in Portugal, gearing up for their challenge in the Saudi Second Division. Guiding them through this preparation is a familiar face to Portuguese football, coach Fabiano Flora. He is a Portuguese coach leading this ambitious Saudi side.

The team also features a player many here will instantly recognize: Moussa Marega. The powerful Malian forward spent several years lighting up pitches in Portugal. He played for Marítimo, Vitória de Guimarães, and FC Porto. Seeing him back on Portuguese soil, even in a friendly, was a nod to the global nature of the game.

The match, played at Estádio Dois Irmãos in Portimão, started quickly. Portimonense wasted no time, with Francisco Canário finding the net in just the first minute. As halftime approached, Danio added another goal for the home side in the 42nd minute. This put Portimonense firmly in control at 2-0.

After the break, Portimonense continued their strong performance. Mesaque Djú had an excellent second half. He scored his first goal in the 50th minute. Just ten minutes later, he converted a penalty kick, securing his second goal of the match. With the score at 4-0, Al Diriyah found a consolation goal. Gaetan Laborde scored for the Saudi visitors in the 82nd minute. But Portimonense had the final say. Zé Gabriel netted their fifth goal in the 86th minute, sealing a dominant 5-1 victory.
