The world of cinema lost a true original this Monday. Nissar, a director celebrated in both Malayalam and Tamil films, passed away at 65. He had been receiving treatment in Changanassery, Kerala, when he left us.
Nissar was a rare talent. He proved that great movies don’t need huge budgets. He always found a way to make engaging films for audiences, winning hearts along the way.
A Legacy of Efficiency and Innovation
The film directors’ association, FEFKA, shared heartfelt words about him. They noted Nissar’s incredible ability to complete films quickly. He was known for his fast pace, but he never compromised on quality. This dedication set him apart.
Nissar’s journey began in Thrikkodithanam, a small town in Kerala’s Kottayam district. He always had a deep interest in art and cinema. In 1994, he made his directing debut with the Malayalam film ‘Sudinam’. That film was an instant hit at the box office. It gave Nissar a new identity as a director to watch.
Over the next twenty years, he directed a total of 27 films in both Malayalam and Tamil languages. He truly showed that good, entertaining movies can be made even with limited resources.
Master of His Craft
Nissar was famous for his fast and organized way of working. He would complete films quickly without ever cutting corners on quality. FEFKA also honored his impact on filmmaking. They said Nissar guided cinema in new directions with his technical skills and efficiency. His unique tricks, like ‘dups’ and ‘cheating shots,’ are still part of film school lessons today.
Nissar was a whiz at working with busy stars. He could shoot difficult scenes with veteran actors like Jagathy Sreekumar in just a day or two. This showed his incredible skill and careful planning.
While known for popular films, Nissar also loved to experiment. His single-shot movie, ‘Two Days,’ proved this. It was shown at many international film festivals. The film even earned him several awards, marking him as a truly versatile filmmaker.
His Final Act
Nissar’s last film was ‘Laughing Apartment Near Girinagar’. It came out in 2018. After that, he stepped away from active directing. Nissar had been unwell for some time. His family shared that his funeral will take place at the local mosque.
