Pope Francis’ Condition Stabilizes, Breathing Aid Needs Decrease

The health of Pope Francis remains stable, with his treatment showing gradual improvements, and a decrease in the need for nighttime oxygen therapy. According to an update from the Vatican on the evening of March 15, 2025, the Pope’s clinical condition has seen positive developments over the past week, with ongoing high-flow oxygen therapy. However, the need for non-invasive ventilation at night has been gradually reducing.

The Vatican’s statement also noted that Pope Francis continues to receive medical care, including physical therapy and respiratory therapy, at the hospital. These treatments have shown signs of gradual improvement. The Pope spends most of his day undergoing treatment, praying, resting, and working. On Saturday, March 15, he even signed off on a three-year plan to reform the Catholic Church, which includes increasing the role of women in the church’s administration and decision-making processes.

Pope Francis, who is 88 years old, has been residing at the Gemelli Hospital since February 28, after being hospitalized on February 14. Initially, he was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, but his condition has been stable over the past few weeks. On March 10, the Vatican announced that the Pope’s blood test results and response to medication were positive, leading doctors to cancel their previous “cautious” diagnosis, indicating that he is no longer in serious danger.

As of March 14, Pope Francis has been able to walk from his bed to a chair where he rests during the day, sometimes with assistance from hospital staff and sometimes on his own. This progress is a testament to the effectiveness of his treatment and therapy. The Vatican’s updates on the Pope’s health have been closely followed by people around the world, who are eager to see him recover and continue his important work as the leader of the Catholic Church.
