Popcorn Time: Time to Say Goodbye to “Netflix Pirate”

The offerings for hacking enthusiasts are dwindling over time. The latest door-closing service is one of the most popular apps for illegally watching movies or series in recent years: Popcorn Time.

Popcorn Time emerged in 2014 and has managed to gain some popularity since its inception. It even annoyed Netflix, which was alert to the growth of the illegal platform.

The creators of Popcorn soon abandoned the project. But since this was open source, other programmers ended up catching it, as it would end up having “deaths” and “resurrections” over the years.

The reason for the “death” of Popcorn Time

The programmers did not comment publicly on the end of the platform. But a graph posted on the official website shows the drop in polls that has occurred over the past seven years.

As we can see above, Popcorn Time enjoyed a huge surge in polls in 2015. But since 2016 it has declined to become practically irrelevant. The data in question is from Google Trends.

This news came first from Bloomberg, who will have received an email from the group behind Popcorn Time announcing the “shutdown.” However, it is not indicated whether this action is related to authority issues.

Those who used this solution to watch series or movies will now have to turn to other alternatives. The “RIP” (may he rest in peace) insists this is the end of Popcorn Time, but piracy must remain a headache for Hollywood and other studios.
