Gavin Wood, the founder of Polkadot (DOT), has donated $5.8 million to Ukraine to support his efforts in the war against Russia.
Gavin Wood’s promise has been fulfilled
Earlier. on February 27, 2022, Wood made a promise that he would donate $5 million in Polkadot if Ukraine posted a Polkadot-specific address. This has now happened, and Wood has kept his promise. For example, today on the official Twitter account of Ukraine posted a Tweet in response to Gavin Wood.
The people of Ukraine are grateful for the support and donations from the global crypto community as we protect our freedom. We are now accepting Polkadot donations too: $DOT: 1x8aa2N2Ar9SQweJv9vsuZn3WYDHu7gMQu1RePjZuBe33Hv.

Almost 300,000 DOT sent
Gavin Wood subsequently completed the transaction to Ukraine. He is reported to have sent approximately 298,367 DOT tokens to the address. At DOT’s current price, that works out to about $5.8 million.
In all, the Polkadot address received more than just Wood’s transaction. The address currently holds over $6 million worth of DOT tokens, suggesting more people want to support the country against the war with Russia. It is expected that after this success, more cryptocurrencies will be accepted for donations. However, it is not yet known which exactly these will be.
