Police Raids in Marconi Seize 45 mm Weapon Used in Fatal Crime

Saravia and Bazán arrested two men who circulated armed in a van in the Marconi and Plácido Ellauri neighborhoods the seizure occurs at the same time that the Marconi and Plácido neighborhoods are the scene of homicides, shootings and prey.

The police have recently seized the weapon used in the homicide of a cash transit officer who was killed last Monday in the Marconi neighborhood. The journalist María Eugenia Scognamiglio from News Agency reported that the 45 mm caliber weapon was found during several raids in the Grotta neighborhood of Lourdes. A 23-year-old individual, who was in possession of the weapon, has been detained and will appear before a judge and prosecutor, Sabrina Flores, to determine if they are the perpetrator of the crime.

A woman was also arrested, as she was with the detained individual and the police suspect that she may have been involved in covering up the crime. The investigation is ongoing to locate two other individuals who have been identified in connection with the case. The police are working to piece together the events surrounding the homicide and to bring those responsible to justice.

The murdered officer had finished his shift in Section 22 of Montevideo and was heading home on his motorcycle when he had to take a detour from his usual route. In Passage B, near Juan Acosta and Saravia, the victim, who was not in uniform, was confronted by several armed individuals who threatened him. This occurred after 23:00 hours. The perpetrators fired at least six shots, and when the officer fell injured, his regulation weapon was stolen. The officer died at the scene, and his motorcycle and backpack were found nearby. The detectives collected several 45 caliber caps from the area.

The corner where the homicide occurred has a history of criminal activity. Just last week, an assault on the occupants of a truck, who were later found to be police officers, ended in a shootout, and one of the perpetrators, a minor, was wounded. The funeral of the murdered officer was held this Wednesday in the department of Artigas, where he was from. The police are continuing their investigation and are working to ensure that those responsible for the officer’s death are held accountable.
