Poland strengthens its border after an aerial invasion by Belarus

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs met this Tuesday to the Belarusian charge d’affaires after two Belarusian helicopters violated Polish airspacean incident which, according to Warsaw, is “another element of the escalation of tension on the border” between the two countries.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland issued a firm protest and called on the Belarusian side to immediately explain the incident in detail”, he said in a statement, adding that he expects Minsk to “refrain” from taking actions leading to an escalation.

For its part, the Polish Defense Ministry explained in a statement that the border crossing of the two helicopters “took place in the Bialowieza area and at a very low altitude”, which made it difficult “to be detected by radar systems” of the poles.

Faced with this violation of its airspace, Warsaw will increase the number of soldiers on the border while also allocating additional forces and resources., including combat helicopters. These actions have already been reported to NATO.
