Poland increases additional military deployment on border with Belarus to 10,000 soldiers

Polish authorities announced on Thursday that the additional military deployment plan on the border with Belarus will finally include 10,000 soldiers, the main aim of which will be Border guard support and “deterrence” tasks.

“We are moving the army closer to the border with Belarus to intimidate the attacker not to dare to attack us. His words came after Border Patrol commander Tomasz Praga asked the Defense Ministry to transfer at least a thousand additional soldiers to the border, on top of the 2,000 already in the area.

The Polish government is trying to manage a possible new wave of migration from Belarus amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine. So far this year there have been more than 19,000 illegal border crossing attempts, 4,000 of them in July.
