Paul Pogba’s highly anticipated return to professional football following an 18-month doping suspension has been further postponed by a new ankle injury sustained during training. The Monaco midfielder was scheduled to play this Saturday against Paris FC.
This latest setback creates fresh uncertainty for the 2018 World Cup winner, delaying his first professional appearance since September 2023. Monaco coach Sébastien Pocognoli confirmed the injury.
“We are awaiting confirmation of the severity of the injury,” Pocognoli stated. “We will wait and see, I hope it’s just a sprain.”
Pocognoli added that Pogba had been eager to return and was prepared for his comeback. “He was looking forward to playing again and was ready. The deadline has been postponed.”
Pogba last played professionally for Juventus in September 2023. He was subsequently suspended for 18 months after testing positive for a banned substance.
