The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, double winner of the Tour de France, was infected with covid-19 at the beginning of the year and underwent the mandatory period of isolation and recovery, after which he resumed training focused on opening the season at the UAE Tour, which will take place from February 20 to 26.
“Tadej Pogacar tested positive for the virus and showed mild symptoms. As instructed, and in the interest of his health and the community at large, he underwent the mandatory period of isolation. and recovery, before resuming training,” explains Adrian Rotunno, the medical director of the Emirati team, in a statement.
Pogacar, 23, suffered from the contagion at the beginning of the year, joining the list of cyclists who have gone through the same ordeal, such as Nairo Quintana (Arkéa-Samsic) or Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies), among other figures from the international squad.
Despite the interruption of training due to covid, Pogacar plans to premiere the season on the 20th in the UAE Tour, a race in which it won in 2021.
“He still has to undergo some medical tests, but he should resume his preparation for his first race of the season, the UAE Tour”, assures Adrian Rotunno.
