Podoroska came back and won at Wimbledon qualy

The tennis player from Rosario Nadia Podoroska was able to compete again after almost a year without playing officially and on his return he achieved a good victory for the first round of Wimbledon qualy, the English Grand Slam on grass.

Podoroska, semifinalist at Roland Garros 2020 and who is now number 173 in the WTA ranking, beat the American Asia Muhammad (167) 6-3 and 6-3. Her last match was 10 months ago, in August 2021, when she lost to Belgian Greet Minnen at the US Open.

In the second round of Wimbledon main draw qualifying, the 25-year-old tennis player will face the Australian Jaimee Fourlis (153), who comes from eliminating Bosnian Dea Herdzelas 5-7, 7-6 (4) and 6-4.

Podoroska, who became 36th in the world in mid-2021, her best historical position, had physical problems (a proximal tendinopathy of the right hamstring, located on the posterior aspect of the thigh, near the hip), which prevented him from achieving continuity in the circuit. By case, in all of 2021 he was able to play just 36 games, with a record of 17 wins and 19 losses. Her most important triumph was against the American Serena Williams in the tournament in Rome.

For its part, Lourdes Carlé from Buenos Aires also had a positive start: in her first qualifier of a Grand Slam tournament, the native of Daireaux (ranked 152) beat Kateryna Baindl (149) 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. Carlé will face Taiwanese En-Shuo Liang (195) in the second round.

Meanwhile, the santafesina Paula Ormaechea (154) will be the third Argentine in the Wimbledon women’s qualifier: she will debut against Croatian Jana Fett (254).
