Following Christopher Nkunku’s unexpected pre-season injury, Chelsea are desperate to strengthen their attacking line-up. Despite investing a whopping €385m in transfers including Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Axel Disasi and Nico Jackson, the England side have yet to find the ideal replacement for Nkunku’s absence.
One of Chelsea’s most recent setbacks has been the failed takeover of Michael Olise. Despite the club paying his release clause, the young footballer opted to extend his contract at Crystal Palace rather than join Chelsea. This leaves the London team with a week to find a solution in the transfer market.
Pochettino is desperate for a new striker
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino told a press conference that the club are working tirelessly to strengthen their attack. Pochettino emphasized: “We need reinforcements in this area, but we are looking for the right player profile. That is the most important thing,” as the MARCA newspaper explained.
Lukaku doesn’t go along with the plans
Despite the team boasting Romelu Lukaku, whose signing surpassed the €100m mark, the Belgian failed to live up to expectations in her only full season, scoring just fifteen goals. Lukaku has returned to Chelsea after a loan spell at Inter Milan but doesn’t appear to be in Pochettino’s plans and is training with the reserve side while awaiting a chance for his future.
