Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana on Friday, distributing ₹2,000 each to over 9 crore farmers. The transfer was initiated via video conferencing from an event hosted in Guwahati, Assam at 5:00 PM local time.
The agricultural direct benefit transfer program represents a massive fiscal commitment within the broader Indian business and economic landscape, operating on an approximate ₹75,000 crore annual budget. The funds are routed directly into the verified bank accounts of eligible small and marginal landholding farming families.

Scheme Framework and Compliance
To ensure uninterrupted receipt of the ₹2,000 transfer, the Union Government mandated that farmers complete their e-KYC and verify their bank account details on the official PM-KISAN portal prior to the release date.
The Central Sector Scheme, which provides 100 percent funding from the Government of India, was officially launched on February 24, 2019, in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The program provides a total of ₹6,000 per year to each eligible farmer, structured as three equal ₹2,000 installments distributed every four months.
The government maintains strict exclusion criteria to target the most economically vulnerable agricultural workers. The scheme specifically excludes institutional landholders, active and retired government employees, income taxpayers, and registered professionals, including doctors, engineers, and lawyers. Prior to Friday’s event in Assam, the government had successfully distributed exactly 21 installments since the scheme’s inception.
