The player auction for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) could take place in the second week of February. According to press reports, it is almost decided to hold this auction (WPL Auction) at a hotel in New Delhi on the 10th and 11th of February. In this auction, 5 franchises will choose their respective templates.

WPL teams were recently auctioned off. 5 teams will play in the first season. In such a situation, there was competition between 17 companies to buy these 5 franchises. Here IPL’s Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals got one team each. The other two teams were bought by Adani Sportsline Pvt Ltd and Capri Global Holding Pvt Ltd. These 5 teams were sold for a total of Rs 4670 crore.

After the team auction, the preparation for the player auction has now begun. According to the information revealed so far, each franchise will have Rs 12-12 crore to buy players. 15 to 18 players can be purchased on each team. Of these, 7 players may be abroad. In game-11, 5 foreign players will be able to play, in which one must be from a partner country. There is a tier with a base price of Rs 10 and 20 for uncapped players and there is information on how to create a tier with a base price of Rs 30, 40 and 50 lakhs for capped players.

The first season of the women’s IPL is expected to be played from March 5-23. There is a possibility to hold the WPL final just before the start of the IPL. In such a situation, from player auction registration to team names, jerseys and many other things are yet to come out. Given the tightness of time, the month of February is going to be very busy for the WPL franchises and the BCCI.
