The $1,000 jackpot is the biggest prize awarded by this lottery since November and it is the third time in history that this bet reaches an amount of one billion dollars. The winner can choose between taking an immediate payment of 558.1 million or receiving the total of thousand 80 million in a period of 30 years, which adjusts 5% annually, the newspaper reported. The chance of hitting this prize is one in 292.2 million.
The lucky one must pay 37% of the total in taxes, since the US tax services consider lottery winnings as income. The last winning jackpot ticket was chosen on April 19, for a grand prize of $252.6 million. The jackpot drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
Before that, the record was $1.59 billion, won in 2016. Powerball is played in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
