Plastic bags have been banned in Oman

Muscat: The Oman government has announced to ban the import of plastic bags in the country from next year.

According to foreign media, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment says that the import of plastic bags will be banned from January 2023.

According to the Director General of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Sami Al-Sahib, this decision of the Ministry is part of the strategy of banning products that harm the environment.

He said that the said decision taken in conjunction with the Environment Authority will support the factories to compete with the imported products which are not good for the environment.

Director General Sami Al-Sahib made it clear in his statement that this decision will not have any impact on the local plastic production factories.
