After many rumors and leaks, Google announced the Pixel 5 to 5G, the successor to last year’s Pixel 4a 5G.
The Pixel 5a 5G has a bigger screen than its predecessor, a metal body, the biggest battery of any Pixel smartphone and is IP67 certified.
The Pixel 5a 5G has a 6.34 ″ screen with Full HD + resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels, 20:9), which equates to a density of 413 dpi, the same as Pixel 4a 5G.
Google packaged the device’s 6.34-inch screen into a 154.9 x 73.7 x 7.6 mm chassis, weighing 185g. So, although the Pixel 5a 5G is taller and heavier than its predecessor, it is a bit narrower and thinner.
Apparently, the Pixel 5a 5G is heavier than its predecessor due to its metal body, a first time for a Pixel a series device.
Google keeps using glass Corning Gorilla Glass 3 it’s the same 8 MP front camera that hides under a hole. The Pixel 5a 5G also maintains the 12 MP and 16 MP rear cameras of its predecessor.
Surprisingly, the device lacks the spectral and flicker sensor of its predecessor, which is also found in Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL and Pixel 5. As explained by Google at the time, this sensor allows you to adjust your camera’s exposure to minimize exposure . banding, something the Pixel 5a 5G won’t be able to do.
The Pixel 5a 5G has a 4.680 mAh battery, the biggest of any Pixel smartphone. While wireless charging is not supported, the Pixel 5a 5G is dust and water resistant with IP67 certification.
Google reused hardware configuration: Snapdragon 765G, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Consequently, don’t expect too much difference in performance between Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5a 5G.
Unfortunately, the Pixel 5a 5G is only available in Japan and the US for 51,700 yen and $449, respectively. The device will go on sale in late August.
