“Piranha Robberies” Hit Pharmacies in Montevideo, Thieves Steal Perfumes Worth 1 Million Pesos.

Thieves on motorcycles are targeting pharmacies in Montevideo, making off with perfumes valued at thousands of dollars.

Recent Incidents

The latest incidents happened in Punta Carretas and Carrasco.

  • On Friday, around 8 p.m., eight robbers arrived at a perfumery on Bulevar Artigas and Benito Nardone.
  • They smashed a display case and took about 200 bottles, worth around $25,000.
  • The next day, four men hit a pharmacy on Juan Bautista Alberdi and Jamaica in Carrasco.
  • Two went inside wearing helmets and carrying black bags, grabbing perfumes from the shelves.
  • The others waited on motorcycles, making their getaway.

Previous Arrests

In March, police arrested two young people, a 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, for similar “piranha robberies” in pharmacies across Montevideo and Canelones.

The man had a prior conviction, while the woman had no record.

Police are still investigating these latest incidents.
