Pharmaceutical industry generated more than 1,000 jobs during the pandemic

The pharmaceutical industry recorded a strengthening of employability in the sector, with 14,500 jobs at the end of 2021, 1,084 more than in 2020the year the Covid-19 pandemic was declared, according to the “Economic profile of the pharmaceutical product industries of the Dominican Republic”.

The data published in the report prepared by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM), establish that the pharmaceutical product industries, made up of laboratories, experienced a sales growth of 18.8% in 2021attending to the pandemic situation, and its contribution to tax collections grew by 59.8%.

“We will continue working to maintain a climate of stability and trust for protect installed investments and for new investors to also join and bet on the Dominican Republic and thus continue generating new and better opportunities for all Dominicans,” said Minister Víctor -Ito- Bisonó.

The MICM report, the governing body of the industrial sector in the country, also presented information on exports of pharmaceutical products, which have been increasing, with the United States and Germany being the main destination markets.

Main exporter
In his conclusions, the report urges the Dominican pharmaceutical industries to abide by the standards of good manufacturing practices and pharmaceutical preparation contained in reports 32 and 37 for pharmaceutical preparation of the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the verification guide for good manufacturing practices of the Pan American Network for the Harmonization of Pharmaceutical Regulation ( NETWORK-PARF).

The guidelines contained in the documents explain that the quality of pharmaceutical products is a fundamental axis to promote the prevention and treatment of diseases, which is why it is key to maintaining health security in the Dominican Republic.
