Some video games just hit differently, making you think about older times. It seems this feeling recently struck the director of Phantom Blade Zero after playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Qiwei Liang, known as "Soulframe," is the director behind the upcoming Phantom Blade Zero. He told PC Gamer that he really wants to bring back the feeling of the 1990s golden era in gaming. He feels Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 already captures some of that spirit.

Liang shared his thoughts. "Playing Expedition 33 made me remember Final Fantasy X. That was the time I grew up with games," he explained. "I always say I want to bring back the feeling of the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 days. Games weren’t so huge back then. Instead, amazing creators just made them with passion." He added, looking a bit thoughtful, "It’s just hard to find games like that today."

Liang hopes Phantom Blade Zero will let his team show off their best ideas. He wants it to feel complete and polished. He knows it might not be the biggest game around. But he wants players to truly feel the real heart and effort put into it.
As of now, Phantom Blade Zero does not have an official release date. It will be available on PS5 and PC.
