The PGL Astana 2025 CS2 tournament kicked off on Saturday, May 10, featuring 16 teams from around the world, including three Brazilian squads. In the opening round, two out of the three Brazilian teams emerged victorious.
Brazilian Teams Shine in Opening Round
MIBR took on G2 Esports in an intense match that went the full three maps. The Brazilians chose Aubis as their first map and dominated, winning 13-7. However, G2 bounced back on Ancient, securing a 13-8 victory. The deciding map, Nuke, was a nail-biter, but MIBR ultimately prevailed. Rafael “saffee” Costa’s impressive play was a highlight of the series.
In another thrilling match, FURIA faced off against The MongolZ. Unfortunately, FURIA’s efforts weren’t enough, as they lost the series 2-1. The MongolZ won the first map, Mirage, 13-4, but FURIA fought back to win Anubis 13-7. However, they ultimately fell short on Inferno, losing 13-9. Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato had a standout performance with 10 positive kills, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.
On the other hand, paiN Gaming had a straightforward victory against HOTU, winning the series 2-0. They dominated on both Mirage and Nuke, securing wins of 13-8 and 13-4, respectively. Rodrigo “biguzera” Bittencourt, João “snow” Vinicius, and Lucas “nqz” Soares all had impressive performances, finishing with positive kill differentials of +15, +12, and +12, respectively.
