Pezzella wins extra time with Betis

Real Betis Balompié has surprised its followers with a creative announcement on its social networks confirming the extension of Germán Pezzella’s contract. The experienced Argentine defender, 32 years old, has extended his cooperation with the green and white club until June 30, 2026, extending his previous commitment by another season.

This renewal ensures the continuity of Pezzella in the medium term, who has proven to be an important part of Manuel Pellegrini’s plan and is part of the select group of team captains. With this decision, Betis guarantees the retention of one of its most outstanding players.

After his time at Betis between 2015 and 2017, Germán Pezzella returned to the club in 2021 from the Italian Serie A, where he defended the colors of Fiorentina. Since his return, he has been instrumental in the team’s recent successes, including winning the Copa del Rey title in 2022.

Always important for the Betics

The Argentine defender has left his mark at Betis, taking part in 169 official matches and scoring six goals and one assist. His return to the club was a success both on the field and internationally, where he represented Argentina 39 times, including winning the World Cup in Qatar.

With this contract extension, Pezzella approaches the record for the number of games played by a foreigner in the history of Betis, which is currently led by Andrés Guardado. This season, the Argentine defender played 23 league games, six in the Europa League and one in the Copa del Rey, establishing himself as a mainstay in the Green-Whites’ squad.
