The car market is shifting gears. May saw a big jump in sales – 27,043 vehicles were sold, a 16.5% increase from last year. This is a big turnaround from earlier in the year.
Let’s look at the top brands. Peugeot led the pack with 2,470 sales, a 38.5% increase. Dacia came in second with 1,732 sales, up 32.1%. Mercedes-Benz was third with 1,702 sales, a 13% increase.
The competition is fierce, especially between Dacia and Renault. They’re neck and neck for second place.

- Renault: 7,719 sales
- Dacia: 7,713 sales
Some brands did well, like Kia and Citroën. Others, like BMW and Tesla, struggled.
Chinese brands on the rise
Chinese brands are making waves in the market. BYD led the pack with a 331.6% increase in sales. MG also did well, with a 158.2% increase. XPeng, a new brand, sold 82 units in May and 306 units so far this year.
