Petro de Luanda Thrashes Luanda City 5-1, Climbs to Third in Girabola

Petro de Luanda delivered a commanding 5-1 victory over Luanda City on Wednesday, propelling the team to third place in Angola’s top-tier football league.

The dominant performance saw Petro de Luanda score five goals, securing three crucial points in the ninth round of the Girabola season.

Tiago Reis led the charge, netting two goals in the 5th and 39th minutes of the match.

Vanilson added another goal for Petro de Luanda just before halftime in the 45th minute.

Hossi (80th minute) and Julinho (84th minute) extended Petro’s significant lead late in the match.

Luanda City’s sole goal came from Amorzinho in the 17th minute.

The win brings Petro de Luanda’s total to 15 points in the standings.


The current league leaders, 1º de Agosto, are scheduled to play Académica do Lobito away on Sunday.

Second-place Recreativo do Libolo, currently tied on points with 1º de Agosto, will host Bavos do Maquis.

Other matches in the ninth round of the Angolan football league are scheduled to conclude this weekend.
