In this sense, the bachelor’s degrees issued in Peru will be equivalent to "bachelor degree", those of second professional specialty to "postgraduate diploma", those from teacher to "master degree" and those from doctor to "doctoral degree".

"This agreement reflects the trust between both countries to promote student mobility and university research", concluded Sunedu.

The British Council, the UK’s organization for educational opportunities, also rated the entry into force of "good news", while the UK embassy reiterated that "facilitates the mutual recognition of university degrees and degrees between both countries".

The treaty entered into force ninety days after the receipt of the last diplomatic note in which both parties communicated the fulfillment of all the internal legal requirements necessary for it to take effect.

It was signed on May 19, 2018 in the Peruvian Amazon city of Iquitos by the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, and by the then Peruvian Foreign Minister Néstor Popolizio.
