Pension spending reaches 12,121 million in December, up almost 11%

The payment of social security pensions in December amounted to 12,121 million euros, 10.76% more than in the same month last year and equivalent to 11.5% of GDP.

According to data from the Ministry of Integration, Social Security and Migration this Tuesday, almost three quarters of the contributory pension payments in December corresponded to old-age pensions with 8.855 million paid out.

2,013 million were allocated for widows’ pensions, while the wage bill for permanent disability benefits amounted to 1,057 million; Orphan’s benefit is 163 million euros and benefits for family members are 32 million.

A total of 10.1 million contributory pensions were paid.

The system’s average pension was 1,198.7 euros per month, 9.48% more than a year ago, an amount that includes the different types of pension: pension, permanent disability, widow’s, orphan’s and family pension.

The average old-age pension is 1,378.4 euros.

The pensions of the general system are the highest, while those of the self-employed are the lowest

By regime, the average retirement pension of the General Regime, the most common, remains at 1,533.9 euros, while the self-employed remain the lowest at 918.2 euros/month.

The average number of new pension registrations in the system rose to 1,398 euros per month in November 2023 (most recent data).

The average widow’s pension remains unchanged at 854.7 euros per month.

In contrast, 640,675 pensioners, 90.6% of whom were women, received the gender gap supplement in December with an average monthly amount of 65.3 euros.

As for monthly pension payments for passive classes, they amount to 1,506 million in November, the latest available data, an increase of 156.1 million compared to last year, i.e. 11.6% more.
