The director of Petróleos de México (Pemex), Victor Rodríguez Padilla, has presented the company’s production plan for the period 2025-2030. The primary objective is to incorporate 2 billion barrels during this time, with a focus on energy sovereignty. To achieve this, Pemex has outlined 7 strategic actions aimed at increasing production to guarantee national supply.
Among the key points of the plan are the objectives of replacing gas and diesel imports, as well as Pemex’s orientation towards sustainability. Although it is a 5-year plan, it is estimated to guarantee consumption for the next decade. The plan has the support of the Ministry of Finance, which will help the company face its significant debts that are still under evaluation.
Pemex’s Shift towards Social and Environmental Responsibility
The plan presented by the director of the oil company highlights that Pemex will have six key functions:
- efficient resources,
- energy security guarantee,
- support for social welfare,
- strengthening of the national economy,
- environmental responsibility, and
- impulse to clean energy.
These functions emphasize the company’s social objectives, which are manifested through the impulse and promotion of population care programs, as well as national market attention as a measure of sovereignty. Pemex will also assume environmental responsibility through the circular economy, using burned gas in production, among other measures.
The company will gradually implement measures oriented towards clean energy uses and circular economy practices. This includes the reuse, recycling, and waste reduction to mitigate its impact on the climate. Other strategies include the creation of PEMEX Energy, which generates clean energy production projects associated with the CFE.
Strategies for Achieving Objectives
To fulfill its functions, Pemex has created 7 strategies, including sustainable production and clean energy. With this, the company confirms its commitment to production and generation of profits for the Mexican State, while paying attention to environmental and sustainability aspects. The central objective is to achieve self-sufficiency, with a focus on recovering production and achieving energy security.
The investment plan presented by the director of Pemex revolves around this central objective. The company intends to produce 1.8 million barrels per day, of which 1.3 million would be destined for domestic consumption. To achieve these objectives, Pemex plans to carry out 2036 perforations and 1300 major repairs, with an investment of 1.6 billion pesos dedicated to 12 strategic projects that would contribute 61% of total production.
These projects include performing seismic studies in an extension of 38 thousand square kilometers and the programming of 269 exploratory wells located in the Integral Veracruz, Cuichapa, Comalcalco, Uchukil, Chalabil, and Campeche Oriente regions. This is expected to generate an income of 5 billion pesos as a result of these activities, supporting the plans in the energy sector and advancing in the consolidation of an oil, gas, and petrochemical industry that guarantees resources for internal markets and the export of excess production.
