Pelé hospitalized again to continue treatment

Former Brazilian star Pelé, 81, has been hospitalized in Sao Paulo since Monday as part of the treatment for colon cancer that was discovered last September, the medical center that treats him reported Tuesday.

The "clinical conditions" by Edson Arantes do Nascimento "they are good and stable, and they should be discharged from the hospital in the next few days"indicated the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in a statement.

Considered by many to be the best footballer in history, ‘O Rei’ must go to the clinic at least once a month to undergo check-ups and continue chemotherapy treatment against the colon tumor that was detected in September, according to what he has said his family.

The only three-time world champion player (1958, 1962 and 1970) was hospitalized for two weeks in February due to a urinary infection that was found when he went to his regular appointment.

Until this week, that occasion was the last admission to the clinic reported by the press offices of the former player and Albert Einstein.

Although Pelé has remained active on his social networks, he has not reposted recent images of himself.

However, after the detection of the tumor, the Brazilian legend and his family have highlighted their "good" state of health, which in recent years has faced various problems.

Before the diagnosis in the colon, when he was hospitalized for a month, between August and September 2021, the former star of Santos and the Brazilian team was hospitalized in Paris in 2019 and transferred to Sao Paulo to remove a kidney stone.
