Pedrosa says goodbye to Espanyol and heads to Sevilla

It was an open secret since last summer, when Adrià Pedrosa’s renewal with Espanyol became entrenched in such a way that his departure was taken for granted. The left back will say goodbye this Friday as an Espanyol footballer after 112 official matches and nine seasons between grassroots football and the first teamand without leaving a euro in the box despite being one of the defenders with the greatest projection in the League. His destination, Seville (with whom he had already reached an agreement months ago), the club that will play the next edition of the Champions League. “Perhaps there will be a reunion in the future,” Pedrosa leaves the door open.

Espanyol have made his departure official and that of Gavà, who has tiptoed this season due to injuries that kept him off the pitch for a year (“this year was the toughest of all, the injury was a nuisance I went through the operating room, they were hard months. I worked every day, but they are things in which the body rules”), he said goodbye with a few last words of gratitude and bitterness: “At Espanyol I have grown as a player and as a person. I have been lucky enough to qualify for Europe and the bad taste in my mouth of experiencing two descents. I am convinced that this team will quickly return to the First Division. Whenever I can I will try to come to the stadium to cheer on the team”, he commented.

Pedrosa made his debut in the 2018-19 season with Joan Francesc Ferrer, Rubi, in a Copa del Rey match against Las Palmas. That same course he already demonstrated his speed and his defensive qualities, which led him to be a regular in the Under-21s. And Espanyol to Europe, the best memory of him: “Getting into Europe was the best. I played almost everything at the end, that game against Real was wonderful”. In the 2019-20 campaign, the player experienced his first setback, a relegation where, like the rest of the team, he performed at a lower level. He was key to the next course in the ascent, but that summer his relationship with the sports management blew up. Francisco Rufete put him on the market and, although he had proposals, none of them came to fruition, so the winger stayed with the entity just two years after the end of his contract and without the predisposition to renew. “We had two relegations that are moments that mark, but I have been here for nine years, I have grown as a footballer and as a person. I want to remember the beautiful moments. I leave with a good taste in my mouth, ”he commented.

The arrival of Dominga Catoira, who was already in Rufete’s team, did not improve relations and Pedrosa, who was injured in April 2022, put an expiration date on his departure. He has been fired through the back door, playing little and with a decline. His possibilities as a parakeet player were infinite due to his conditions, but the sporting instability of Espanyol and his desire to live other experiences have weighed. The winger will go to a Champions club after a path that he defines as “a roller coaster”. Espanyol stays in Second in search of returning to the elite.
